The Extron PowerCage¢â 1600 is a rack-mountable, 16-slot enclosure that supports a wide range of Extron fiber optic and twisted pair AV transmitter and receiver boards. Providing an efficient way to power and mount multiple transmitters and receivers, the PowerCage 1600 simplifies integration for large, rack-mounted systems. The PowerCage 1600 also features an optional redundant, hot-swappable power supply plus active power and thermal management to optimize reliability in mission-critical environments where continuous, 24/7 operation is essential. The hot-swappable, modular design allows for replacing or upgrading boards in the field at any time, without having to power down the system.

Exceptional thermal management provides channeled air flow to each board for optimal cooling and superior reliability. Air flows from the side of the unit to each board slot, eliminating the need for an air gap above or below the enclosure and preserving valuable rack space. The boards are designed to channel the air out the rear of the chassis for optimal cooling in each slot. An LED on the front panel provides a real-time status alert of an over-temperature condition.

Real-time status indicators on the front panel provide instant feedback for power status, communication, and alarm for each of the 16 slots. The front-panel configuration port enables communication to each board slot for configuration and convenient setup of PowerCage FOX Fiber Optic Extenders.

PowerCage boards occupy either a single-slot or double-slot space, depending on the board type and design. Each PowerCage board features the ability to power down internal components when there is no active signal present, providing intelligent power management for increased system efficiency.

Modular Design Provides Maximum Flexibility

Available boards for the PowerCage 1600 include 16 fiber optic and four twisted pair extenders to support a broad range of video resolutions and formats. The fiber optic and twisted pair boards operate independently, and may be mixed and matched within the enclosure. The PowerCage 1600 can be populated with any combination of transmitters and/or receivers to meet system needs, making it an ideal solution for larger systems that need to support remote sources and destinations. For example, matrix switchers generally reside in equipment racks, which are typically at some distance away from both the source equipment and display devices. In general, a mixture of transmitters and receivers are utilized to distribute signals to and from these locations, often with the need to overcome specific challenges such as limited conduit space, as well as distance limitations.

The ability to accommodate multiple transmitters and receivers in a single enclosure streamlines system design and installation. The PowerCage 1600 eliminates the need for managing individual power supplies and minimizes required rack space when factoring in additional rack units necessary for heat dissipation and cooling. The modular design also offers a degree of future-proofing, whereby unpopulated slots are available to support system growth without additional rack space, system downtime, or equipment relocation.

Complete Fiber Optic and Twisted Pair Solutions

PowerCage FOX Fiber Optic Extenders and PowerCage MTP Twisted Pair Extenders are part of the larger, comprehensive FOX Series and MTP Series of fiber optic and twisted pair products. They can be used for simple point-to-point applications, or in combination with other products including switchers, distribution amplifiers, and matrix switchers, to tackle the most challenging AV system designs with numerous inputs and outputs. The Extron FOX Series and MTP Series provide integrators and system designers with the most complete fiber optic and twisted pair product offering in the industry.

PowerCage FOX Fiber Optic Extenders

PowerCage FOX Fiber Optic Extenders include transmitter and receiver boards for long-haul transmission of AV signals over a single fiber. They are available in a broad range of formats and rates, including high resolution RGB, DVI, multi-rate SDI, SD component video, S-video, and composite video. Engineered for reliability and exceptional high resolution image performance, they use the Extron exclusive all digital technology, to deliver perfect pixel-for-pixel transmission of video images.

PowerCage FOX Fiber Optic Extenders are a double-slot design, allowing for up to eight boards within the enclosure. Multiple receiver boards can be daisy-chained. PowerCage FOX Fiber Optic Extenders are available for multimode or singlemode fiber. Multimode fiber is typically used within buildings or facilities with moderate-range transmission distances. Singlemode fiber offers long-range transmission capability over extreme distances up to 30 km or 18.75 miles.

The PowerCage FOX fiber optic boards, along with other FOX Series products provide a broad range of fiber optic products for a complete AV distribution system using a fiber optic infrastructure. PowerCage FOX extenders work seamlessly with other FOX fiber optic products including transmitters, receivers, switchers, matrix switchers, and distribution amplifiers.

PowerCage MTP Twisted Pair Extenders

The PowerCage MTP Twisted Pair Extenders include transmitter and receiver boards for the transmission of AV signals over a single CAT 5-type cable. The PowerCage MTP T 15HD RSA can transmit high resolution video and audio signals up to 1,500 feet (450 meters)when used with an MTP 1500RL extended distance receiver model, while the PowerCage MTP R 15HD RSA SEQ receiver can receive XGA video and mono audio signals at cable lengths of 600 feet (180 meters) or more. PowerCage MTP Twisted Pair Extenders are available for high resolution RGB, HD YUV, S-video, and composite video along with audio or RS-232 signals.

The PowerCage MTP Twisted Pair boards, along with other MTP Series products provide the widest selection of twisted pair products for a complete AV distribution system using a twisted pair cabling infrastructure. PowerCage MTP extenders work seamlessly with other MTP Twisted Pair products including transmitters, receivers, switchers, matrix switchers, and distribution amplifiers.
